HOW TO CALCULATE THE CUTTING LENGTH OF STIRRUP
hello friends, in this article we are going to discuss how to calculate the cutting length of stirrup.
Question :-
The width & height of this beam is 230 mm and 350 mm. and concrete cover is 40 mm sides and top and bottom cover is 30 mm, diameter of bar is 6 mm.
Answer :-
width of beam is (a) = 230 mm
height of beam is (b) = 350 mm
concrete covers for sides 40 mm
for top and bottom 30 mm
diameter of bar is 6 mm
Formula for cutting length of stirrup is 2 [ (a - 2 X end covers) + ( b - 2 X top & bottom covers ) ] + 24 d ( diameter if bar )
so lets substitute the values.
=> 2 X [ ( 230 - 2 X 40 ) + ( 350 - 2 X 30 ) ] + 24 X 6
=> 2 X [ ( 150 ) + ( 290 ) ] + 144
=> 2 X [ 440 ] + 144
=> 880 + 144 = 1024 mm or 1.024 m
so to make stirrup for 230 X 350 mm beam , with side concrete cover of 40 mm and top and bottom covers of 30 mm , with 6 mm bar, we need 1024 mm or 1.024 m of bar is required.
Lets discuss an another example :-
Question :-
The width & height of this beam is 230 mm and 230 mm. and concrete cover is 30 mm sides and top and bottom cover is 30 mm, diameter of bar is 6 mm.
Answer :-
width of beam is (a) = 230 mm
height of beam is (b) = 230 mm
concrete covers for sides 30 mm
for top and bottom 30 mm
diameter of bar is 6 mm
Formula for cutting length of stirrup is 2 [ (a - 2 X end covers) + ( b - 2 X top & bottom covers ) ] + 24 d ( diameter if bar )
so lets substitute the values.
=> 2 X [ ( 230 - 2 X 30 ) + ( 230 - 2 X 30 ) ] + 24 X 6
=> 2 X [ ( 170 ) + ( 170 ) ] + 144
=> 2 X [ 340 ] + 144
=> 680 + 144 = 842 mm or 0.824 m
so to make stirrup for 230 X 230 mm beam , with side concrete cover of 30 mm and top and bottom covers of 30 mm , with 6 mm bar, we need 824 mm or 0.824 m of bar is required.
I hope you understand.
